About a week ago there was a discussion about Impressionist Stained Glass Quilting by Brenda Henning’s of Bear Paw Productions
I realized I had printed out a free pattern from her site but had never used it. In fact I hadn’t paid attention and thought it used black bias tape……it doesn’t, the background is black fabric. I did a blanket stitch around the creme and just a straight stitch around the flower parts. Then I added the border…pretty neat batik isn’t it? Now to figure out how to quilt it as again I didn’t read the directions completely and I guess I should have quilted it while stitching down the pieces. That’s okay, I plan to make more of this type of flower pattern – maybe even do it right. I wasn’t very original as I used colors just like the pattern showed, Builder Bob really liked this block……he can’t figure out what we’re going to do with the Kaleidoscope quilt……I teased him and said it was for our bedroom.
Yesterday I found a new-to-me blog called Pigtales and Quilts. She is starting a quilt along called How does your garden grow? Strangely enough I had just finished piecing this earlier in the morning. You can “grow” any kind of flower so I am tickled to join. Check it out.
In the afternoon I decided it was time to get a couple tops ready to quilt, it seems that is the part of quilting I dislike the most. I am ready to switch to the “quilting” mode. Fortunately the cats were pretty good and stayed off of them.
I even had time to use up 3 bobbins of thread quilting part of it and hopefully I can get more done on it today. I’m not sure yet how I should quilt the print parts of the Kaleidoscopes….any ideas? I am quilting this on my 15-91 Singer, the top is about 75 x 90 and it is going well. I have a table behind my machine to support the quilt. This is still my favorite machine.
