Northern Cardinal Lil Twister Quilt

I finished up another twister quilt using a mini twister template. This quilt is only 13 x 15 inches.

I put it on a child’s bench to see if I could make it look bigger than it really is.

I picked up this neat charm pack when we went on our road trip a couple of weeks ago. It is Northern Cardinal by Holly Taylor for Moda.

Then I saw this neat template for a Itty Bitty mini twister template and of course I bought it.

It uses 3.5 inch squares so I took 30 of my squares and cut them to 3.5.

This left me with pieces that were 1.5 x 5 and 1.5 x 3.5 inches.

I used the 1.5 x 3.5 pieces to border my little quilt.

Here is how I arranged my squares before cutting them with the mini lil twister template.

I have a hard time getting the color in my photos right, the fabric colors are subtle and warm.

I have made several other twister quilts and you can see the steps in more detail in them.

If I made 3 more, I could have placemats!

You did an amazing job on the quilting! I love it. So cute as a placemat, but white?? Around food? Maybe take those off the table on chili night!! Hehe!
    Thanks for linking it up!

  2. I've made my own twister template for the charm packs as it's so difficult to get them here, if this is using 3.5" is your border 1.5 or 2 inches ??? Thanks for your encouragement on my blog, it really gave me the push to just get on with it :O) I love the centerpiece too.

  3. Connie ~ I'm kinda playing catchup so I'm a bit behind in reading. I had to comment on this post however because I just love these Twister quilts.

What's really funny is a few days ago I learned of a quilt shop hop in my area with one of the stops being very near the Illinois/Iowa border even. Anyway, today just happened to be his day off he gets every other week so we went to a few of the shops and will go to most of the rest of them next weekend. But the one thing I was still searching for was the Lil' Twister tool since they can't keep them in the shops in my area. The shop I normally buy from had them a few weeks ago but I didn't have the money then and she was my first stop this morning to see if there were still any there. Nope, none BUT, she did have the one you used to make this quilt and another which was even smaller than this. Have you seen that one yet? Wow. It is tiny; about the size of a book of matches tiny. I bought this one you've used to make this originally thinking I could use it to make pot holders for Christmas gifts. ha. Then I started using my brain again realizing that it said finished size is 11 x 12 1/4 and that would be much too big for a pot holder. Now I'm thinking I may need to pick up the smaller one as that would be perfect to make some amazing looking pot holders.

Thanks for showing these and how cute they all are.

  6. Yea! No frogs on the quilt this time! I love your sewing machine. I'm jealous.

  7. Oh Connie I absolutely love them as placemats! Linda

What a sweet little quilt and yes, it would make nice place mats too.
That pattern is going right to the top of my wishlist. It is just the kind of small project that I would enjoy.

  9. I can see that you are completely enamored with twister quilts!! Sew adorable as a placemat.

I sew need to get me one of those mini templates – I only have the 5" size 😉

Connie, I love this quilt! I got one of those lil' twisters with my birthday loot. I *will* make one, one day SOON! 🙂

  11. Connie, this quilt is adorable! You are convincing me that I have to try this new technique in the near future. It must have been difficult to cut into your very first quilt with this ruler…after you had probably painstakingly matched all the seams!
Keep on sharing…love the pics! And you should get a prize for presentation of quilts…the child's bench and the flowers in the background is just sweet!

  12. I didn't know they made a Twister tool that small. What a cute quilt. Thanks for the link to the giveaway.

  13. Yet another beautiful creation! I know you said it is pretty easy to do…but boy it looks complicated!

  14. At first I thought it was a full sized quilt… the dime put that into perspective. I love it. So tiny, but makes a big impact. Good Job!
