I haven’t done any sewing in the last couple of days for a very good reason. Remember these cabinets we got last week-end? It is time to move them into my quilt room. I now have sewing room chaos amid a remodel.

I’ve also had this quilting frame for a year that has never gotten set up.

Well Builder Bob came up with the idea of switching my sewing to the computer room because it is bigger – but we walk through this room to go to the bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen…..it is a major traffic area….

Or he suggested I take over the living room as it has so much light and a view of the river. He didn’t care if we were always walking through my sewing area as that is where I spend most of my time. Well I moved my sewing machine in there, moved furniture etc and decided I just couldn’t do it. I like having my private sanctuary.

So I tore apart my sewing room – the new cabinets were sitting in the computer room but I didn’t get a good picture of them.

Then I moved more stuff (this was Wednesday and Bob was working) and emptied everything out of the closet on the left….it was the catch all – stuffed full and took everything off the white book shelves.

My dad then helped me take out the clothing rod and top shelf so I could squeeze both white bookshelves in the closet. There is a space about 24 inches I left open in the center and ended up putting the top shelf back in on top of the book shelves.

I guess I hauled the bottom cabinets in before I emptied the white bookcases. Anyway, I brought in one cabinet…then another…and another…I was getting excited because they were all fitting!

There are 6 all together and they will fit on one wall. Builder Bob will raise them 6 inches to get a good height for cutting and ironing. I will have 3 cabinets with doors and 3 filing cabinets and 6 drawers!

I decided that I don’t need the quilting frame set up, I can always set it up in the basement temporarily if I need it. My sewing room will just have my 15-91 Singer and one other sewing machine. Tonight we were in measuring and Builder Bob has plans on putting the upper cabinets in, changing outlets and putting in 2 more lights.

We have to work today but will stop and pick up supplies tonight and work on my room Saturday.

Bella decided to find a new place to sleep since the sewing room is in chaos. Not really…..I took this picture a couple weeks ago when my dad went into the bathroom and found her sleeping on top of the cabinet. We figured she must have been chasing a fly or something and discovered a new spot to sleep.

Builder Bob still thinks I’m making a mistake staying in the small room but I like the privacy, what do you think? I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  1. what a good man to suggest you take over a main room for your sewing. And to think of reusing those cabinets for your sewing storage. I have my idea where to relocate my sewing, but my DH isn't in for doing that kind of remodeling. You are a lucky lady to have builder Bob. I know your space is going to be great when it's done.

  2. Hi Connie. Private is better. I've had both and prefer the out of the way spot. Mine is a closed in room in the garage. Half the garage I guess you'd say. Nice and big. It's my girl cave : ) . Look forward to seeing the end result.

  3. As nice as the bigger, brighter sewing area would be, not having to put away all your mess when company comes over is priceless! Can't wait to see the finished studio!!

  4. I agree with the privacy issue. I would stay there too.

  5. I am happy with a private space – no need to put everything away when we have visitors – just close the door!

  6. I'm with you. I would value my quiet private workspace more. Can't wait to see it all done! Enjoy! 🙂

  7. I am with you regarding privacy but boy oh boy did you win the lottery whe you found your man! What a darling – doing all that work for you. Of course we all know that a man should be like this for the one he loves most in the world but we also know that lots of them aren't so I take my hat off to you Builder Bob – what a gem you are. enjoy your new sewing room when it is all done Connie and give that man some extra treats!

Wow!! It is going to be fantastic!! Well, it sorta already looks fantastic, but I can picture even sweeter!

  11. Having a more private studio makes so much sense. You don't have to put away any projects quickly when company is coming. I love having my small studio at the end of the hall. Your remodeled studio looks fantastic.

  12. Your new old sewing room is going to look great. I think you made the right choice. This way you can shut the door and walk away from it all when you need to and lock yourself in too..lol

  13. I'm with you on the 'don't want to be in the middle of things' idea. When I'm sewing, I don't want to be bothered with things like, um, cooking for the family……. 🙂

Can't wait to see the finished product. (PS I went thru this last winter, and now I even have lights!)

  14. You are going to have a wonderful sewing space when this process is finished. I hope Bella figured out how to get down from her perch!
