How about another Dish Rug! I use a towel for the backing and no batting.
I have made several and have another Tutorial here.
Here is what I did with my 2 orphan 6 1/2 inch blocks - I added enough 6 1/2 inch blocks to make a 9 square block like shown. I wish I would have had more of the deep pink that would have been prettier but I only had a tiny strip left.
We are making another D9P (disappearing 9 patch). Cut as shown which should give you 3 inch cuts through the center blocks. I have lots of other things I want to do with this type of block! Then the fun is deciding which way to turn the blocks.
I decided to go with this design.
Notice when I sewed the blocks together I left a "turning space" - just like you would do with a lined purse so I can sew all the way around my block and turn it right side out with no seam on the edge.
I laid my block right side down on a towel and then stitched a 1/2 seam around the entire outside. If you have a serger this would be a perfect time to use it!
Remember the opening we left in one of the seams.....I left mine big enough to get my fingers in so I could turn the mat side out.
Here it comes!
I try to roll the front fabric over to the back when I press it. Then stitch around the outside edge.
My top stitch seam is at least 1/2 from the seam.....you want to get
past the seam allowance which is bulky. My old 15-91 Singer has no
problem going through this bulky towel but you might want to stitch
slowly.
Now I topstitch the seam that is open - I go ahead and go from one side to the other.
I have made them before where I did some free motion quilting but on this one I just folded the seam lines and then did a X. The dish rug finished at almost 17 inches square.
I have been tickled to see people making things from my tutorials! If you do please let me know!
Cyn from Cyns Quilted Travels posted yet another neat Dish Rug - she is on a roll!

You've made another great Dish Mat. Love the color! Isn't the D4 or 9P a great technique for these mats?!Thank you for linking back to my blog. I also checked out your other friend's nice blog.
Great idea Connie! I especially like the placement of the open seam for turning.
I'm going to try it!
I almost bought one of these at Walmart, didn't even think of making one. I think I will make one or more, I have tons of fabric.
That is such a practical and cute idea.
Perfect for Spring or Easter - love it in pink. Were we suppose to use batting? LOL - I didn't put any in mine and I like how fast it dries that way. Thanks for the tut!
Great Idea!!
Those blocks are really pretty Connie. Wondering what they have been leftover from ? They would make a gorgeous quilt. ( hope I haven't missed a post)
I have a passion for carpets, i like the design and how intricate it is made. I dont use it for flooring that much but as an art piece. I always make sure my rugs/carpets are clean. It takes on so much dust thats why I regularly call carpet repair in Dallasfor my cleaning and repair needs.
I am going to have to go through my scrap bag and make some of these! Thanks for the tutorial.
What a great idea! I need to make one of these.
Thanks so much for featuring my mug mat,and for the inspiration/tutorial! I will be making more of these in the future :)
Love it! I love that you used the disappearing 9 patch idea! Gotta make me some of these! :)
Love this way of using up extra blocks. What a great way to 'keep' the project with you. Visiting from The Porch Parade.

What a novel way to use up orphan blocks. Love the pinks that you used. It's almost too pretty to actually use!
Such a fun project, I coud't bear to use it for wet dishes though.
Really cute way to use up those left-over strips!!!
Another great project and tutorial Connie! and another one to add to my to do list of yours, lol... Thank you for sharing :) Have a good day! Ellyx
Wow, I'm impressed, using your pink scraps and a tutorial as well, very nice.
So Cute! I may have to make one (or a few) this week. You've got the wheels turning. Just love the dish towels; thanks for sharing!
great idea! sew new blocks or use up those ufo's. might have to give it a try.
Hi Connie! Love your tutorials! Thank you! I absolutely loved your green string bean table runner. I have done the strings before and love them and so I did a pink one for March's rainbow challenge. These little guys are tricky! Well, mine is not nearly as lovely as yours, but I had fun and i love it! Will post it. thanks again!
Now...I love the idea of a dish mat!
