Monday I mentioned that I was working on paper piecing and I have my
Bowls with Borders done but you are going to have to wait until August
28th to see them, I decided to make something that I could share! How
about this adorable little mink!
I wrote this post yesterday afternoon and was just going to show what the mink looked like paper pieced then…..I went back to my sewing machine and decided to quilt it. The little wall hanging/giant mug rug is only about 8.5 x 8.5 inches.
I found the link to this on Regina Grewe’s Textile Landscapes site under links. Regina has a lot of free patterns and tips for paper piecing and also designed the Bowls we are using in the blog hop. Until I went to find the link I thought Regina had designed it…..I thought I was going crazy when I couldn’t find it. Then I finally looked at the .pdf file and saw the name. This is a free paper piecing pattern that you can find on Ulas Quilt page. Link no longer works. She has other animals I would like to make too.
Here are the sections I had to make and then put together for the mink. I have wanted to make this little mink for quite some time.
My biggest problem has been cutting fabrics pieces too small…..I keep telling myself not to be skimpy. Oh…..the other problem I had……..and the biggest….is getting the first 2 pieces of fabric sewn together. I keep wanting to put the fabric right side facing against the back of the paper template. I think I’ll make myself a sample……of just the first 2 pieces sewn together. When I have a hard time figuring something out I always blame it on being left-handed……and then I try again…..if I can do paper piecing…..so can you!
