Word Verification – do you even know if you have it turned on?
Carrie from A Passion for Applique had a great post yesterday about all the problems people are having with Word Verification and I just wanted to say that I have been getting very frustrated lately with trying to leave comments and I can’t get the words right……..so after 3 or 4 times I give up.
I turned off Word Verification a long time ago and yes, I get some spam but most of it is caught and not posted.
Edit: It looks like Word Verification is turned on by default so be sure and check yours! Let’s spread the word and let others know! Feel free to share a link to this post.
Several times in the past I have been talking to someone and asked why they were using Google’s Word Verification and many times they don’t even realize they have it turned on – here is why:
Notice the red highlighted words? Blog authors will not see word verification for comments.
So even if you check to see if you have it on by posting on your own blog………..you won’t know.
The easiest way to check it is to go to your blog:
- Click on Design
- Go to Settings
- Look at Show Word Verification
- Click NO
You could also sign out of your Google account and leave a comment on one of your posts. If you have Word Verification turned on………..guess what……….you’ll have to type in those terrible letters.
Why should you turn off Word Verification?
- Everyone loves to get comments
- This will make it easier for people to leave comments
- You can choose to not allow anonymous comments
- Google is very good at catching spam
So my question for you today: Is your Word Verification ON or OFF?
We have been having beautiful fall weather the last few days, last night Builder Bob and I even sat down by the Mississippi river and had a bonfire…..and wore jackets! Today we’re going to enjoy more of this great weather with friends. Enjoy your day!
