Brown string pouch
This post may contain affiliate links which won’t change your price but will share a commission.I’m still going through my orphan blocks and making little pouches out of them. I forgot to take a picture of the string pieced brown block before I cut it up. I believe I made this last year for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and since the color is brown again this month/year this was a great project to make.
It was a 12 inch block that I cut in half and then added a 8 inch by 12 inch piece of fabric between the 2 cut pieces. Then I quilted it.
Here is the little bag before I boxed the corners which makes the bag wider and also standup.
Each pouch is made a little differently as I like experimenting. I did french seams on it and here you can see that my corners are boxed about 1 1/2 inch in.
I took some pictures while making this pouch but they just weren’t good
enough for a tutorial and there are lots of great ones out there
already.
I thought I would show you a picture of the pouches I’ve made lately.
See the pumpkin one….that is the one I did out of a 12 square….quite
a bit shorter.
This is a wonderful site and she has a great tutorial called Easy zippy pouches that has excellent photos and directions especially if you have never done a zipper before. She has several other great tutorials too at her blog Dog Under My Desk.
Great bag!
Making pouches is one of my favorite things to do! I am in love with that Pumpkin pouch, the colors are just gorgeous:)
So fun! I think I may have to try making one of these to keep some supplies in the car with a hand stitching project….. Hmmmmm.
Love your brown fabrics Connie 🙂 and your pouches. Great ideas for Christmas gifts. 🙂
Love all the pouches! What are you going to do with all of them?
love that i have been cutting scraps into sizes today and that would work to use them up
Love the little brown pouch. Zip-er-ups are so handy. I have a fairly small one that I carry in my purse with tiny projects like handpiecing or embroidery. Can't stand waiting around with nothing to do… like the line in the grocery store, so i just whip out my project and sew! I've gotten a few weird glances! lol
Wow, beautiful pouches! Great use of orphan blocks.
Connie the pouches are wonderful!
Connie — thanks for the post — putting the zipper off the top of the pouch allows it to finish nicely… I'll have to make a few more "sparkly purses with flowers" now — tying this method !!
Cheers!
Karen
Connie, these are darling! I particularly love the batik bag. You should sell your stuff on Etsy! 🙂
She's great, isn't she? I've made a few of her pouches; her earbud pouches were my favorite. Your bags came out wonderfully!!
Cute pouches!
Hello Connie, Lovely to be back and seeing all your pretty pouches .What a great idea They would be very usefull. Bit scary the zippers.
What a fun way to use orphan blocks. These little bags look like they would be very handy to have around.

Great zip bags – what fun.
Love your pouches and thanks for sharing the link, Connie.
Cute pouches, Connie! I like where you've placed the zippers – I think it makes a more interesting pouch than a top zipper.
Very pretty little bags! I wish I would learn how to make them cause they are just so darn adorable!
Wonderful pouch!
