Journal covers are always fun to make and a great way to use up those orphan blocks. This was actually a piece of fabric I made the other day for another project and it was bigger than I needed so I used the leftovers for this.
I have been making a bunch of small projects. To me they are rewarding
as something gets completed fast. I am thinking about doing a little
series of small projects with tutorials that would make great gifts as that is what I’m
going to do with them.
Here you can see the cover opened all the way up. I used my Sizzix Big Shot and a die to add a little applique to it. I quilted my cover because…….I just love quilted things.
Here you an see the inside of the cover. This is just a standard 8.5 x 10 inch notebook but you can use any size.
Here is a closeup of the free motion applique.
There are many wonderful tutorials for making journal covers, here are 2 of my favorites.
Rachel from Stitched in Color has a excellent Journal cover tutorial and Wanda at Exuberant Color has a tutorial here. She wrote it in 2008 and has made many, many beautiful notebook covers out of batiks…..my favorites. Her blog is always a must read.
I will eventually do my own tutorial…..since I do my covers quilted they need to be a little bigger and I did a couple things differently.
