Bargello Fall Quilt

Bargello quilt @Freemotion by the River
This is a bargello quilt that I pieced....last year or the year before. It has been kind of fun to finish up these different old projects!

When I finished this I wasn't too happy with it. There wasn't enough contrast in the different fabrics. I wish I would have put the same fabric that I used in the border into the center of the design. I have a feeling I didn't have the cute paw print yet. The size is 28 x 32 and I just did a large stipple on it.

I remember that I took a picture of it for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and then saw that I had a couple rows that were off. I think it is amazing how things like that are so much easier to see in a photo. Anyway, I got out my seam ripper and fixed my boo boo............then I put in the "quilt later" pile.

I put a cute cat fabric on the back, another oldie from my stash.

I have really been in a quilting mode.......enjoying myself in my quilt studio and starting more projects! What are you working on?

  1. For me, this is wonderful because I love the soft blended effect you achieved. I think it is so hard to predict how a bargello or trip around the world will turn out until it is sewn. Love the backing fabric to finish this off.

  6. Connie, this is lovely! I've always liked the idea of doing a bordello quilt, but was intimidated by the 'bigness' of them. I'm looking at yours thinking it's more do-able. Where did you get your pattern? And I adore the print you used on the back -- it's purrrrrfect!!! :)

  10. Connie, I think the blended effect is very pretty. More contrast would be nice, too, but either one works. It is very nice just as it is.

  18. I admire anyone who can make a bargello quilt. I have tried but my colors are not good. I have no talent for picking color values. I am good at putting colors together to make a quilt but not to do the shading you need for this. I think yours is awesome and I like it just the way it is. It will look good hanging on my wall if you really don't like it and think it should have a new home. Just saying......

  19. I've always wanted to tackle a bargello. I do love the colors in yours.

Isn't it funny how those boo-boos show up in photos?

  20. I really like the color-washed look, especially the center. Kinda soft, like 'twilight'. The kitty fabric on the back is darling!
What am I doing? Shopping and getting my "start up" stuff for my new Sizzix. ;-) Oh, and cleaning house. ;(

  21. It's a great little quilt Connie. I'll admit there is very little brown in my stash but I really do like the way this one you've made looks.
