Easy Street part one

192 blocks for Easy Street quilt
Yesterday I spent a fun day working on the first part of Bonnie Hunter's new mystery quilt called Easy Street. Of course I had to take breaks from sewing all those little blocks and I spent that time hitting some great Black Friday sales online. I have lots of fabric and some new AccuQuilt dies coming.

My daughter and grandson went out Thursday night to the stores to hit all the sales....yep...they were some of those crazy people lined up around Target. I guess it took 10 minutes for them to just get into the store when it opened. They got some deals but it was funny to hear her say that she doesn't think she will ever do that again. I did it once a long time ago and won't do it again. Did you go out and hit the stores for the sales?

I am sticking with the colors that Bonnie picked out because I have never made a quilt with grey fabrics and I also love the other bold colors she has picked out. I would almost like to make another quilt at the same time with different color choices but..............there are too many other projects I'm working on. Are you going to make this mystery quilt?
Easy Street
My blocks are all done, I really like the marbleized grey fabric I used. I bought it originally to make my second Nyan Cat quilt and then decided to make it from batiks. I had only bought a yard and a half so I went back to my local quilt store and was fortunate that there was still some on the bolt...I bought the rest.
I also bought a new ruler.............do you think I needed one? This is my absolute favorite ruler as it has a little lip that grabs my cutting board. I know I have had it for years and wasn't sure if I could find it again.....I like the marking better on the original one......at least the markings that are left. Now I'm sure you know I won't throw away the old one.....

Do you have favorite tools like that?

I love your Easy Street 4 patches! I'll be following along vicariously & printing out the instructions so I can stay focused on UFOs. LOL at your ruler... I'm a Creative Grids girl but I've yet to wear the markings off my original 6.5 by 24.5.

I'm saving the instructions as time just doesn't allow this project right now. I have rulers worn - always my 3.5" and 6.5" squares - usually replaced yearly as I just use them to death!!

The 6 X 24" O'lipfa ruler is my very favorite too.
Good luck with your mystery quilt. Looks like fun.

I'm stitching along with you and Bonnie and apparently, a ton of others! I have never sewn with gray so I had to order some. It's waiting for me at the post office. I am very tempted to drive the 30 miles one way to get it!

Very nice. I'll be stitching along with you and many more, apparently. Just finished buying some gray and some black on white fabrics on sale at JoAnns yesterday and today. I was an early riser to get the door buster fabric sales : )

I love the gray fabrics. At first I thought they were B&W photos. Sometimes when I'm trying to figure out whether fabrics will work together, I switch the camera to B&W to see whether the colors are balanced--and I thought that was what you had done. How cool is this that they are actually shades of gray. I'm headed over to Bonnie's page to check out this quilt along.

You know you are a committed hard working quilter when you wear the lines off your ruler! WOW Connie!
Love your easy street blocks! I am off to get sewing!

Done? already? Man, I'm still in the planning stage with no black and white fabrics yet! As for rulers go...I still use the one I stepped on and broke the end off of it. We all seem to have one of these!

I'm on Easy Street too! Not quite done with a little cutting and sewing but should finish up soon. Love the grey color you selected for your constant.

I am going to do Easy Street. I am "worried" about the purple. Do you have yours picked out? Any chance of "seeing" your choices to help me with mine. Ido not have only a couple in my stash.

I did Black Friday one time...actually, I chauffeured my girls and let them do the shopping ... but still, it was enough for me! I have two favorite rulers -- my Creative Grids 4.5" square and my 24" X 6.5" ruler! Your fabrics for Easy Street are fun -- I especially like those musical notes!! :)

I am SO itching to be working on Easy Street! But I am still out of town so I will have to wait until I'm home on Monday :( I love your 4-patches - great gray fabric! I absolutely never go shopping on Black Friday! But my daughter-in-law does every year.

Congratulations on having Easy Street blocks done. I have the fabric, just no blocks yet. Need to get busy. Yours look great!

I have a ruler that looks just like yours. I hated to give it up but I did finally break down and buy a new one.
I like your gray and all the other background fabrics. I'm doing her mystery again this year too and I love the colors she chose this year.
Hope to see you all over on the Street. ;-)

Wow, Connie your 4 patches look awesome! I'm also doing the Easy street, but haven't started yet. Are you signep up to the Easy Street Flickr group? I have my Olfa frosted rulers that I love. Some od them have the corner chipped because I got cought in it with my rotary cutter... :)

We didn't do Black Friday sales...stayed home, safe and sound. I did however do some online shopping like you. I have lots of fabric on the way. Can't wait to see what you do with those blocks...love the color palette...very chic and sophisticated my dear!!

Your fabric choices look great. I'm not doing the mystery. I never do them because I need to have an overall view of where I'm going. I never liked what I made from mystery classes. I like the older ruler markings better, too, but I love the Quilt for a Cure rulers that alternate pink and green lines. I'm so less likely to get mixed up! I've listened to friends talk about Black Friday sales on Thursday night, and there's nothing I want or need badly enough to go. =)

Great blocks!!! I'm stitching along with you and Bonnie, too.

Great 4-sies. Wow, you're fast! Love the grey you are using as your constant. I don't have any grey, so haven't started yet [I'm a late bloomer...lol].
No way... NO Black Friday for this ol' gal. I did score a few things online and a few more Saturday night at Michael's [no crowds!], but that's it.
I have a ton of rulers, but almost always reach for the same one. Love all the 1/8" marks on it. So accurate for small piecing, which i seem to be doing more of these days.
[geesh... didn't mean to write a book.]

Love your little blocks! And that ruler looks pretty neat...have never seen it! Thinking about doing Easy Street but may have to wait awhile to start it. My favorite ruler is Creative Grids 6.5...love it!

I'm not a shopper. I would probably save if I kept track of sales more, but I think my time is just as valuable and I don't like to shop in a crowd with a bunch of crazy people.

I stayed home and sewed instead--a much more worthwhile adventure. I have 80 of the Easy Street 4-Patches done. I see that we are even using one of the same B/W fabrics. I decided to do this project because I haven't sewn in forever. I needed a project that was fairly mindless and that I wouldn't have to think too much about the fabrics choices. I am using Bonnie's scheme. I bought the grey because I didn't have enough of anything in my stash. I also bought some yardage of the green. I will pull the rest from my stash.

I really enjoy your blog!

I can't believe that you got those 4 patch blocks done already. You are amazing!!!!

I would never attempt shopping those stores on Black Friday. There is no deal worth it. ;)

I think the marbleized grey fabric that you used for your constant is fabulous! All of your blocks look real nice! I'm doing Easy Street and this is my first mystery and is only my fifth quilt ever!

It was spotting your beautiful Orca Bay quilt on the Internet which led me to Bonnie's site, and encouraged me to do the Easy Street - thank you for the inspiration!

Can't wait to watch your progress on the mystery quilt. I love the fabrics you picked out already. I'm not sure I have a favorite ruler...I love them all!

Your 4-patches are lovely. I never go shopping at sale time. I'd rather pay full price when there's hardly any other shoppers.
