I had made some out of this owl fabric last year so I only needed to make 4 more......fast. I cut the owl panel 15 inches wide and then added the brown and the leaf print to get a nice sized place-mat. Then I decided I didn't want to spend a lot of time quilting the pieces.
I put my backing wrong side up and then a piece of Warm & Natural on top of it. Next I placed the pieced place-mat on top and lightly ironed it. Next I started with the seam closest to the center, flipped my piece so the seam showed and then stitched over the seam. Next I folded it back over and pressed, then repeated and re-stitched all the rows.
I cut some straight binding 2.25 inches and sewed it to the front of the place-mats. You can see the stitching lines on the back to hold the quilting together.
I normally pin and sew my binding down on the front side but since I was running out of time I just did the stitching on the back which doesn't give as nice of a finish. By time I finished it was dark and too late to put them out on the table for a photo.
Today is the second day of the Holiday Lane Pillow blog hop so be sure and see what everyone has worked on.

The place mats are lovely. The owl fabric is such fun. I am so pleased that I'm not the only person who ends up sewing bits like place mats the day before a big holiday event. I hope you have a very happy Thanksgiving.
HA! you "just" whipped those up yesterday! how many? I HAD one set of 6 place mats, not fall colors, well they are asian with green and gold so I'm using those tonight, after all hubby is half asian and the couple that's coming to join us, the wife is half asian too, so :-)
