Debby Kratovil Quilts had a great post the other day on her Spinning Pinwheels - where she has a great tutorial - and since I had just bought some new fabric......I decided to play.
Remember the green I also bought the other day thinking it would work for my Easy Street quilt.....I'm not going to use it so I cut some up for my Spinning Pinwheel. Then I decided I didn't like the background and switched to a ecru tone on tone.....better.
Here you can see the print I used....lots of neat leaves. It is called Journeys by Kathy Davis for Free Spirit or else it is called Leaves in Harmony....there is a lot of info on the selvage edge and yes...I'm cutting off my selvages to someday make something with them.
I made a mistake cutting my pieces and I should have known better. There were 8 pieces of fabric and I should have only cut 4 at a time. I use a small rotary blade (which might be getting ready for a new blade) and practically sawed through the fabric.....which resulted in my pieces not being as exact as they should have been.
You have to be careful piecing as you are working with all bias edges.
I had enough to make 2 more blocks but I have to admit.....I'm not crazy about the different designs created with my fabric. It was fun to make them, now I'll just have to decide what I'm going to do with them.
We ended up going to Zero Dark Thirty yesterday, Builder Bob loved it.....me....I thought it was very good. The 2 buckets of popcorn.....priceless!
Be sure and see what others are working on at Patchwork Times.

What a wonderful tutorial, Connie!!! I love it:) Thanks for sharing.
I think your blocks are very pretty. I like the lighter background better, but if you made more with dark background and mixed them up that could be a great effect too. Thanks for the link.
NOT ME!!! I always finish everything before starting another project.....giggle....yeah right!
Love your pinwheels.
Oooh...those are way cool! I love the designs it made. Put's a whole new "spin" on the print of the fabric! Tee hee.....
Yep, I'm guilty. I tell myself I'm not going to do anything else until I finish a project or two and then I see something on someone's blog and just have to do it...But, I don't feel guilty anymore because that's what we do this blogging thing for. To inspire others and be inspired, right? I have learned so much from others and have made great friends this way too. Like I said, no more guilt, just enjoyment! Your blocks are wonderful! You always inspire me. Thank you, Connie.
Oh those blocks are fun, I wonder if I have time to try .... I like the light background better and your fabric is fabulous. Blow finishing other projects before starting something new. Where's the fun in that. So long as I have enough room to store them I'll carry on starting new projects. All of them will get done eventually.
they look great, reminds me of one block wonder quilts, it's been a while since I made one, hmmm NOT that I need another project
I love kaleidoscope-type blocks! They always have such interesting designs. I'm glad to see someone else is saving selvedges :*) And theatre popcorn is always a winner with me!
Definitely ...lately I am side tracked all the time. Actually just looking at your blocks, I thought...yes, I always wanted to try those. Love the look of them and really like the fabric you used. Very pretty.
These are so neat!!
I love the blocks! Do you mind if I show them to my math students to help them understand rotations/transformations? Thanks for the tutorial link!
I love the blocks. The movement in each block shows up nicely. As for starting something new...I do that a lot....LOL. It's very easy to get sidetracked....that way we quilters are never bored!!
This is one of my favorite blocks. I like both backgrounds. Turquoise was my favorite color for several decades. I think alternating the color of background would look good. We went to see the Last Stand yesterday. Gotta love Arnold. Hee Hee!
Oh I love these, they have been on my one day list for a while now. I'll get there one day! I think if you whipped up one more block in the green background you'd have a nice little table centrepiece maybe? I like the alternating colours in your last photo.
I'm doing that same pattern in pinks and browns, but not using the same fabrics. I made a smaller pinwheel quilt a little over a year ago. I am doing the same pattern.

I really love your blocks! Here is my finished quilt.

I did sew buttons on my quilt.
I should have said I am not using the same method, but the same process to sew the blocks together. My dimensions are a bit bigger though.
I think they are COOL!
I know that feeling!!!! Are you kidding? I love the design the fabrics are making in the spinning pinwheels. They look gorgeous.
Very cool! Thanks for the link to the tutorial! I love the contrast of the different backgrounds personally!
These looks great and they do seem like they are spinning. Not difficult either. And yes, I often drop what I'm doing to do the newest idea. Concentration and attention span of a gnat when it comes to pretty things!
Your Spinning Pinwheels are beautiful, thanks for the link to Debby's blog, she has done an excellent tutorial. I'm delighted with your Spinning Pinwheels, thanks for sharing your creation! An idea of something I would do with them is coasters, would be original.
Marisa.
Connie, I love this! Thanks for sharing it! Was it difficult to cut the initial pieces exactly the same?
It's hard to believe all of the Spinning Pinwheel blocks are from the same fabric. They look like fun to make.
Sew Very Pretty. Thanks for sharing and for the link, too. Everytime I see one of these blocks or quilts, I want to run to my stash and start cutting and sewing. I do have quite a few projects in the works right now that are keeping this one on hold ... um ... maybe ... ;) Pat
