Broken Herringbone Quilt Block

The last thing I need to do right now is start another QAL but…..I found a new to me blog called Molli Sparkles and a quilt along that is just getting started using this block so I pulled out some batiks and made a block!

We got home from our trip yesterday and 2 hours later I had my sewing machine warmed up and going……Bob just shook his head at me as I showed him my block. I sure missed my sewing machine.

I can’t believe how hot it is now that we are home! While in Minnesota we had beautiful weather with no humidity and I even wore a jacket at night. At least we know that the weather will get cooler here soon. I’m going to check out the river front today and see if the poison ivy died while I was gone.

Now more on my stash! Another neat quilt shop was in Forest City, Iowa called The Quilted Forest.
This is another shop that I visited 3 years ago and I wish I had asked if I could take some photos. We got here close to the end of the day and I was just excited to do some shopping before they closed.

I bought a couple of the Cotton Candy strips last time and decided to pick up a few more. There are ten 2 1/2 inch strips in each little bundle…..aren’t they cute!

I waited until I got home before I opened them…..I can see a Halloween project made with the orange and black strips!

  1. What fun. Love the ill cotton candies.

  2. Awesome blocks, Connie!! Isn't he a kick? I love reading his blog. There have been times I've laughed so hard I've cried.
I so wanted to join the MSBHQAL but after much debating decided against it. I haven't even finished quilting my Texas Teardrops yet. Starting another QAL might not be too bad of an idea but I don't function well with a lot of UFO's nagging at me.
Your trip sounded busy and fun. How did you ever drive by that quilt store so many times without making someone drop you off?? lol From the pictures I can see why you could have spent a lot of time there. It looks wonderfully full of goodies and something to see in every nook and cranny.

  3. Fun, fun, fun! I had saved that tutorial to try later on! Seeing yours makes me want to make it today!

Gosh, thank you Connie! Always enjoy your postings. BTW, I had 2 hours of amusement this morning while I viewed the blog you passed along, "Molli Sparkles Broken Herringbone Quilt Along". This blog is a trip!! Jason writes about his take as a "newbie" when he was exploring a new world; sewing and quilting.

All that yummy goodness!! I don't NEED more fabric, but dang I WANT SOME!! LOL

  17. I thought that was you on the Herringbone flickr site!! Your block is gorgeous. I have one out there, too, but mine is "broken" – really broken. 🙁 No time to get back to it right now but I will fix it. Wish you lived closer – you could help me figure out what I did wrong.

Those cotton candy strips look like they would lend themselves to the herringbone very readily.

  18. I saw that block this week too and LOVED it! Yours looks terrific.

I saw that the heat had descended on you guys again. Amazing! Any rain in the forecast?

The quilt shop sounds great and I am glad to see you had a little retail therapy while you were there.

  19. What a lovely block! And I've never seen those "cotton candy" strips – fun!

  20. The block is wonderful and so are the additions to your stash.
