The White Pelican is still here and doing well.

I took this picture of Pelly with me when I visited the DNR yesterday. They were surprised that we had a young pelican and gave me the number of our local conservation office.

I have been talking to a very nice man who is trying to find someplace that will take the pelican.

The first thing he said was to take the pelican back to where we found him as it against the law to own a wild pelican. I explained that he was sitting in the road which was only about 50 yards away and……the pelican wasn’t caged.

He doesn’t look like a baby does he?

Hopefully I’ll hear more today but in the meantime…..finding fish is important. I think my brother is having fun fishing.

Even in the rain my brothers and Builder Bob fished.

Today the sun was out and it was warm. Pelly went for a little swim and sat on the dock out in the river for a bit. The story will continue…….

I'm in love with Pelly! I will hate to see him relocated, but you should do whatever is best.

ALthough living in the city, we had a pet duck…son's class at school hatched them as a lesson, and then just asked "who wants to take one home?" when they were bigger and he raised his hand, so I picked up him that day..with a baby duck in his hands! Raised him like the family pet…city t hen made us "relocate" him. I moved from that city!

  4. I am so glad you are keeping us updated on Pelly. Such a cutie!! I hope he/she is able to fend for himself soon, or that a place can be found to care for him/her. I am in awe of how tame it is too. Carole @ From My Carolina Home

  5. I think that pelican has adopted you as its new mom! Hope you find a good place for him soon. Wild animals really need to be wild. And good luck with the water–it does not look like fun!

  6. Mary Huey says:

Just reading a bit about where pelicans nest and they will nest on the ground on islands where there are no predators so perhaps he was washed out of a nest up river from you. And "Young pelicans start to walk independently at about 35 days old in ground nest, but do not leave treetop nests for up to 68–88 days. In the 8–10 month period they are cared for, the nestling pelicans are fed by regurgitation around 70 kg (150 lb) of fish" — hopefully that isn't daily!! Tell the fellows to keep fishing!! Loving the pics!!

Pelly has found a new family! I am amazed at how close she is willing to come to people – she knows a good thing when she sees it 🙂 Love the way the guys are fishing for her.

Pelly is looking great – is she not trying to fish at all by herself? I don't remember if you said she is injured?

I have been loving the continuing story of Pelly. She's lucky to have stumbled across you!

  13. Why would Pelly ever want to leave???? He has everything he needs right there. The next post will see him holding his own fishing pole while catching his dinner!!!! I can't believe how high that water is. I do think you are going to be sad to see Pelly leave if they find him a home.

  14. Hi Connie! Thank you for telling about the Pelly! I'm happy to read and see how he is doing. Quite exciting for you! x Teje
