I finished up another quilt top, it feels so good to empty out another box containing bits and pieces of a future quilt. I’m going to call it Earthly Stars.
I found my old post about the QAL and it looks like I finished up 6 blocks here on August 17th, 2011 and then trimmed them into wonky shapes. I should have stopped after trimming one into that shape because I really didn’t care for the look….of course I trimmed almost all of them before I definitely knew it just wasn’t me. I remember carrying the blocks around and pulling out the seam ripper to remove the borders. It took a while and then I got interested in another quilt (or two) and this was put away.
I pulled out the blocks and decided to add some more color to them as I still had quite a bit of the fabrics left. This was a fat quarter bundle called Earth from Connecting Threads. I just cut some strips in various sizes so I could end up with a 12 1/2 inch block.
I used my handy 12.5 inch ruler to straighten them. Some blocks got color others got muslin.
I wasn’t sure if I had enough fabric to do the entire border on a block so I used 2 colors on each block.
Once I had all the blocks made I cut the remaining fabric into 2 1/2 inch strips to use for my binding.
I have to admit that I really love this quilt now. I was so close to just pitching the blocks and now I have this great quilt top. Now that I have finished up 2 old UFOs……..I think it is time to get back to work on some new projects!!
