Going to the birds

I’ve been making one…..or two birds….aren’t they cute!

I’m also working with leaves and flowers in batiks. I do raw edge applique and batiks are wonderful for that.

AccuQuilt Simple Shapes die and batiks

I am using the Simple Shapes die by Edyta Star for AccuQuilt, isn’t it neat! This die can be used with the AccuQuilt GO! or GO! Baby.

I still have all of these pieces that I will use for some more applique projects.

Want to see what I am working on?  This is about 12 x 18 and will probably be a wall hanging.

For a limited time you can get Edyta Sitar’s pattern Spring Showers for free. It uses the Simple Shapes die and also the Dancing Umbrella.

I will use my vintage 15-91 Singer sewing machine for the applique but before I get started on it I have another project I need to do. Looks like Builder Bob’s shorts are wearing out. You know how it is when you have a favorite piece of clothing…..you’ll wear them forever. The closest color of thread I have is this green Aurifil, it actually matches better than it looks in the photo.

I am new to your blog, so you probably have mentioned this elsewhere, but how do you do your applique? Do you use fusible web? Just curious. I so want to learn but am very intimidated. I love your bird shapes though!

I'm not all for birds in my quilting, but yours look really neat, Connie! I love Edyta Sitar's style and love how you made her wallhanging!

gorgeous Connie and oh the number of times I've had to repair shorts! Think you have the same Singer as me, is it a 99K? – Chris 😀

  6. Catherine says:

    Hi Connie,
I'm visiting via the Sew Darn Crafty party. I'm just starting to do some appliqué and loved seeing your birds. What vibrant colours-they look really fantastic. I tried doing some raw edge appliqué during a class earlier this year. Do you use a fusible web?

  7. Valerie Reynolds says:

Love the birds made out of the batiks!!

  8. Karen - Quilts...etc. says:

LOL – I think my husband has the same shorts that I have mended – last time he got a big old hole in the side of them and I had to iron an iron on patch on to it from the inside and sew all over it to make sure it would stay down – but he wanted to keep them and wouldn't toss them – not the prettiest job but he still wears them

  9. Somehow, I don't think Builder Bob would welcome a cute little bird over that patch. 😀 But they are cute.

  10. Libby in TN says:

I bet Builder Bob just looks cute in those shorts, period!

  11. Judy D in WA says:

Cute, cute, cute! I bet Builder Bob's shorts would look cute with a little bird over that patch. 🙂

  12. What cute little birds! I suggest embroidering little hammers over that rip. I hate it when my favorite clothes wear out.
