Stash Control in the quilt studio
Last weekend I took a little time to straighten up my fabrics……you never know when you’ll find something you forgot you had. I also have a small basket that I keep scraps in and it was time to cut them into different sizes that I keep. The smallest is a 1 ½” square (crazy……I know). All the fabrics on the right side are batiks!
After doing all that my bin that I keep the 2 ½” squares in was overflowing so I decided to spend a little time sewing some of them together.
There is nothing more relaxing than sewing 4 patches together. I used a ¼” seam allowance.
After I made a bunch of these I cut up some 5″ squares of neutral fabrics and then cut them diagonally.
I then added them to the sides of my 4 patch. I am using 2 different neutrals for each block.
You end up with a bunch of neat blocks and…..less scraps!
I probably won’t trim my blocks until I’m finally ready to make something with them….for now I’m just clearing out my stash a little bit. Square up your blocks to 6 ½” x 6 ½” and make a quilt!

Please tell me that's not all the fabric you have. It seems you always have the perfect fabric for all those gorgeous quilts you make.
Seriously though, if that's all your stash then I won't be able to let you come to my house and see the monster stash of mine. LOL I'd be way too embarrassed to let you see it all.

Your 'resource center' is pretty to look at! Fun to get some scraps sewn up too. I keep telling people, those scraps cost just as much per yard as the fabric you used last time. Quilt on!!

1-1/2" squares make perfect sense to me. Your stash is lovely. What a happy place to play and let your creativity run wild!

Great way to use those squares!
I'm making the same block but with my 1.5" squares for the 4-patches and then my 2.5" squares for the corners – two barrels of scraps being used.
Isn't it fun cleaning your scraps up??? Great tutorial! Perfect for the "Go Four It" challenge!
I also cut 1.5" and 2.5" squares from scraps. Those do add up fast what I've been cutting fabric. I also have a box of 2.5" HST, a box of 3.5" squares, 5" squares, and bricks (3.5 x 6.5). I may a little too crazy!
in a couple of weeks, I hope to be doing some stash sorting myself. 😀 I find making string blocks to be very relaxing.
