I am taking part in the Fat Quarter Shop Delectable Mountains QAL. This pattern is part of their Classic & Vintage series.

The Delectable Mountains quilt block is a traditional quilt block that has been around for many years. The design features a series of mountain peaks or sawtooth shapes arranged in a repeating pattern.

You will often see the Delectable Mountains quilt block used in quilts that feature a landscape or outdoor theme. The history of this quilt block is not clear, it is a traditional block and it is believed to have been around for a long time.

The block can be arranged in a repeating pattern or combined with other blocks to create a larger quilt.

I decided to use some fabrics that were in my stash for the crib-size quilt and then added a border as this will actually be a lap quilt for my dad.

The colors are Hunter Green, Navy Blue, and Burgandy……I think Dad will like it. Do you remember when this color combination was very popular? I think about 25 years ago is when I was making table-runners with this combination.

The Fat Quarter Shop has the full Delectable Mountains pattern which includes the lap, crib, twin, and king size.

I made a lap-size Delectable Mountains quilt that was 48½” x 64½” before I added a large border. There are 24 quilt blocks in this size of quilt.

I just did a swirly free motion in the background on my 15-91 vintage Singer sewing machine. I also used Hobbs 80/20 Premium batting.

I was trying to use up some of the oldies in my stash and this piece of fabric with eagles on it is now gone from my stash.

This is always a neat block to make and get the free Delectable Mountain block pattern.

Be sure and stop by Fat Quarter Shop’s Jolly Jabber where you will find a list of the other quilters that have made a quilt project with the Delectable Mountains pattern.

Kimberly also did a video that you may enjoy watching. You can find the Delectable Mountains video here.

Vintage & Classic Quilt Blocks

I have a couple of other vintage & classic quilt blocks that you might enjoy.

  • Snail Trail – I made a wall hanging with this quilt block
  • Bear Paw – I made a neat table runner with this quilt block
  • Jacob’s Ladder – I made a wall hanging or this can be used as a table topper
  • Log Cabin – I made a precious little appliqued log cabin quilt

  209. Carla Shiver says:

I like to make a full sized quilt the most because it doesn't take too long, but is still big enough to work on for awhile.

  210. My favorite size quilt to make is a lap quilt. It comes together faster than the bigger quilt sizes, but it's large enough to be usable. It's also a LOT easier to quilt on a home machine!

  211. I make a lot of lap and baby quilts, also twin or picnic sized ones!~ tks!

  212. I downloaded the pattern from the FQS Jolly Jabber. Thanks again.

  213. I prefer to make lap sized quilts; easier to manage the quilting on my home sewing machine. Thanks.
