Bag It Pouch
Have you ever started working on one project and then…..switch to another? That is what I did yesterday. Actually, I seem to do that quite a bit. Anyway, I finally felt good enough to spend some time quilting. I pulled out a batik jelly roll that I have had for a long time and started making some blocks. The collection was called Xanadu Batiks by Moda and I figured it was time to use it up. I was cutting some 2 1/2 inch squares and thought they looked a little funny. It turned out all of the strips were about 1/8 to 1/4 inch wider than 2 1/2 inches. I’m glad I caught it right away and if you use pre-cut strips or stacks be sure to double check that the size is correct. I took the time to trim all of the strips right away…..then I hauled out the vacuum to help me pick up all those tiny snips.
I went back to working on my blocks and when I took a break I checked my email. Darlene from QuiltShopGal had a new post about a #StitchAlong that is hosted by Patty D of Elm Street Quilts called Bag It that she is taking part in. Well…..you know I love making bags, pouches, totes and purses so I had to go check it out. Can you guess what happened next????? I decided to make the Basic Zip Pouch since it used 2 1/2 inch squares and….I had a pile of them in front of me.
In Patty’s tutorial she used fusible fleece and I didn’t have any so I used regular fleece and an Elmer’s Washable School Glue Stick. I love that stuff. I am getting low on zippers and the closest color I had was a blue…that worked for me.
In no time at all I had it finished. I know the zipper is a little wonky…..I have no idea what I did! It is a little smaller than my phone and I think it will make a great coin purse.
Darlene also mentioned that Jocelyn from Happy Cottage Quilter is making pouches and found the cutest charms at Walmart that work for zipper pulls. I’ll be checking that out the next time I go!
In the meantime I pulled out the precious little gift my granddaughter gave me last Christmas, I think it looks beautiful!
Now……..make to my blocks……tell me I’m not the only one who gets side-tracked!

Oh I must be the side-track queen, lol!!! That's why I have so many UFO's. I too love bags of all kinds and batiks so I think your little coin purse is great! I use washable glue stick a lot too. It helps to hold the zipper in place when sewing them in bags too.
Yes I get side tracked quit often. I love your little bag, beautiful colors. I don't have the patience to quilt and only sew when I have too.
Your batik projects are always so pretty. Great tip to use Elmer's glue for regular fleece. I used spray glue rather than fusible fleece this time, but Elmer's is so much cheaper. Will do that next time!

Hah! My middle name is 'sidetrack'. I have to go check out Walmart for some zipper pull charms. That's a really cute little pouch and the pull charm is perfect.

Oh, I do this all the time! I always seem to have several things in progress at once. I love your zipper pull from your DGD. I'll be finishing up the binding on the mini quilt I made from your pattern today, and doing more crewel work too.
