April showers bring May flowers and around here we have dandelions already! I just finished a small applique quilted wall hanging made with batiks from the Red Tide collection from Island Batik.
All of the Island Batik ambassadors have been fun making projects with the new collections that are coming out soon. The theme for April has been……April Showers and we have been having a few lately so I thought it would be handy to have some extra umbrellas on hand. #aprilshowersib
Last week I showed a peek at my project and the beautiful Red Tide collection of batiks I got to work with.
I like to use old phone book pages when I do my applique. I wonder if phone books will even exist in 20 years, I can’t remember the last time I used one and we don’t even have a house phone anymore.
The applique was done on my vintage 15-91 Singer and it is free motion applique. I used several different colors of Aurifil thread for the applique – black for the umbrella applique, white for the free motion quilting on the cream squares and tan for the wiggle line on the blocks.
Another closeup for you, the sun washed out the quilting in the background.I know I’m starting to sound like a broken record lately but……I really wanted to get a tutorial put together for this before I posted it but…..April is almost over and it has been a crazy month!
I am still having so much fun with the bright and colorful fabrics! Tuesday night my daughter treated me to dinner and a evening at the salon where we both got our hair styled and colored. The colors in this quilt are very similar to the colors in my daughter’s hair. This is a mixture of 5 different colors! She found a photo online and showed it to her stylist who did a fantastic job of creating something very similar. Okay…..I can’t resist showing her once more….she is such a beauty! I wonder if she’ll check out this “quilt” post!Just one more photos of the quilt,I also have a beautiful quilt made with this same collection that is going to Quilt Market in May. You can get a sneak peek of it on the Island Batik site. Can you guess which one is mine?
You can find a list of all the ambassadors and their projects at Purrfect Spots.
I almost forgot to share this photo of the quilt taken with my little boy statue.
