Confetti Steps

51″ x 63″

Confetti Steps is now available, doesn’t it look strange to see the frozen river in the background of my photos!

I really had a lot of fun making this quilt and……I am in the process of making it once again. This quilt will be traveling around to quilt shops for the next year and I just happen to have enough of the fabrics to make another one.

Spring 2016 Island Batik goodies

I am an ambassador for Island Batik and in my Spring ambassador goodie box was a bundle of the same collection of batiks that I used to make this quilt months ago. I was so tickled to see it!

Confetti Steps quilt pattern

Confetti Steps is a fast and easy quilt pattern that is perfect for beginners. My pattern has full-color diagrams of all the steps.

I thought you might enjoy seeing that it was pieced and quilted with my vintage 15-91 Singer sewing machine.

Freemotion quilting Confetti Steps

When I am free-motion quilting, I have a table to the left and a table behind to support the quilt.

In this photo, the quilt is done and hanging over the tables.

Supporting a quilt when free motion quilting on a domestic sewing machine

While I was quilting I kept the entire quilt on the table. When a quilt hangs over the table, the weight will cause problems with your stitching.

Confetti Steps made with Island Batik Red Tide collection

I used the Red Tide collection from Island Batik for this quilt. My quilt and the Red Tide collection were shown recently at Quilt Market.I also used this collection for my April Showers Quilt tutorial and my Wonky Stars table topper that I showed recently.

When I send a quilt to Island Batik for Quilt Market I always put a label on the back with the quilt name and my address so my quilt can always be returned to me. I am really, really bad about putting labels on my quilts that stay home. Note to self: put labels on all quilts!

The beautiful fabrics in this quilt were an eye-catcher on a gloomy winter day.

This would also be a great quilt to make using your scrap fabrics.

I love the stark contract of the dark batiks against the white – beautiful.

  2. I’m also a batik lover, and I love this quilt! The pictures with the frozen river background are stunning!

  3. I love the quilt, so nice how the colours are set against the white (snow?) coloured background fabric. Brilliant photography, too, I’ve never seen such cold that would freeze up a river like that!

  4. Thank you so much for linking up on Wandering Camera, Connie! Not only I love the quilt, I really love the photos of the frozen river. I hope you are staying cool this weekend.

  5. I’m really bad at making quilt labels as well, but with your quilt traveling, Congratulations, it is especially important to label them!

This is a lovely pattern. I am a big fan of scrappy quilts, and the batiks really look wonderful.

  7. Connie, honey, it’s absolutely gorgeous! You’re a good ambassador!

  8. Visiting from BuzzinBumble. Loved the photos of the ice. My husband and I just discussed the other day that in a few short weeks, Iowa goes from brown and barren to rain forest green. Great looking quilt.

  9. Connie, this and all the quilts you showed here are fabulous! In Confetti Steps, I love the white zigzagging through all the colorful squares and also how you did the inner border. The wintertime photos are rather refreshing, aren’t they? LOL
I pinned it and hope it will be another huge hit from you!

  10. I’m delighted that I found your blog through Lara’s blog hop. I adore your confetti quilt. I especially like the setting that you photographed it in. There is something about seeing a quilt next to a body of water that makes me smile. it looks like there are at least two patterns that I am going to have to buy and sign up for your newsletter. 🙂 Thank you for sharing.

  11. How funny ~ I was just reading today’s blog and here I am back at your site for Lara’s mini crafted applique blog. A big thanks to all the generous bloggers who shared inspiration for raw edge applique:)

  12. I love seeing how your quilting business and reputation in the quilting world is growing Connie! You do such wonderful designs and always share so generously. I always enjoy seeing your vintage machine in action as well – such encouragement to us domestic machine quilters :*) (And yes – LOVE the shot of the ice on the river in the background!!!)

  13. Considering we are having close to 100F temperatures, I definitely enjoyed the frozen river photos. The colourful quilt looks very pretty against the white backdrop. I like the photo of your vintage machine with the quilt too.

Awesonme Quilt!!! (so are the others in the one picture too!!) Love the way you took pic’s against the gray weather…Beautiful!!

  15. What a beautiful quilt! I especially like how the small white border accents the asymmetrical setting. And speaking of settings, the setting for your photo shoot is breathtaking. It must be wonderful to watch the river in all the changes of the seasons. It makes a perfect backdrop for your quilts. And I agree with you–even an inch of overhang of a quilt while you’re quilting it makes it weigh a ton.

  16. Beautiful quilt and i love the pic with all those quilts together, so wonderful!

  17. Your quilt is beautiful.

  18. Oh my! If I lived near the river as you do I don’t know that I would be able to finish any quilt. I’d be out on that patio staring at the river and relaxing all day long. Luckily for us, you finish quilts and even often patterns for them! Terrific photos. It’s starting to get hot here and when it does, I’ll be sure to think of those icy river chunks so I can cool off.

  19. Awesome!!! such a beautiful quilt.

  20. Karen Rowland says:

  21. Lori Smanski says:

i get your newsletter and always enjoy what comes my way. your quilt is gorgeous. good luck with this one going from shop to shop. it will inspire many people I am sure.thanks for the great tip about the weight of the quilt while quilting.

  22. That is quite a striking image with all that ice in the background! The quilt is beautiful. And even though it has started to get warm here, I will never wish for it to be cold again!

  23. Confetti Steps is gorgeous. I liked seeing the machine that you did your free motion quilting on. It gives me hope that I might someday figure out how to do that on my own very basic machine.

  24. That is a beautiful quilt, Connie and I always love seeing the quilts out by the river – year round!!! Your labels are a great idea.

  25. Another awesome quilt Connie. I really love these colors. And that box of goodies you have to play with looks like so much fun. Can’t wait to see the next thing you make.

  26. Sally Dea says:

I love that you do free motion on your old Singer…. I have a question… how do you lower your feed dogs… I would love to use that machine to free motion…. also do you use a darning foot.. I know… how about a tutorial… that would be super …Love all you do and your beautiful pictures and blog.

    1. Sally Dea says:

      What model Singer is that???

  27. Your quilts are so beautiful. I enjoy seeing them displayed with the river in the background. Yes, it is very hot here and the icy river is quite the cool sight. Congratulations on your quilt making the rounds. Embracing Creative Bliss…

  28. lovely quilt (again) and fun river pics, great after spending several hours at the lake today, we got hot and sandy!

  29. It really is beautiful and the background just makes it shine. Definitely in my favorite color wheel.
