Modern Wind Tablerunner

This month the Island Batik ambassadors were given the challenge to use batiks in a modern design. I wasn’t sure what I would create, I think of myself as more of a traditional quilter most of the time although I have made many things that are….different.

I found some blocks that I had made last fall and never used and all of a sudden I had an idea for a modern quilt design! I’ll share those blocks with you in the near future.

I needed to make a quilt project using one of the collections of batiks that just came out so I pulled out some fabrics from the Tradewinds collection from Island Batik.

It is no secret that I love using batiks in my quilting…….I actually think anymore that I seem to do 90% of my quilting with batiks!

It is so much fun to get a spontaneous idea and then go with it! Once I had the idea it didn’t take any time at all to piece and quilt it.

This will make a beautiful table runner and is about 20 x 34.

I figured since it was a Modern Batik Challenge I had better change my quilting a little and make it look a little wild modern. Of course, I used my vintage 15-91 Singer sewing machine and the quilting is free motion lines that are VERY, VERY organic…..or wiggly.

It is always fun to see the back of a quilt and for this one I used muslin.
It was a little too bright on the deck when I took this photo but I wanted a pic with my flowers.
The Tradewinds collection is beautiful and includes fabrics with seashells and fish. I also used this collection for my Star Crossed quilt. The pattern is coming soon.
