2017 Goals and Plans
Happy New Year everyone, 2016 was a great year and I look forward to 2017 being even better! I have made many, many quilted projects and every month I always do a review of them. I thought about counting how many pillow, table runners, quilts and other things I made but I would rather spend my time quilting.
I’m not a big writer, I prefer to spend my time taking pictures and quilting so I’m only going to write a little about my 2017 Goals and plans for 2017.
Every single photo that is on my blog goes into Photoshop first, I love working with it and like anything else, I continue to learn more about it all the time. Like many others, I enjoy learning new things and this past year I have bought quite a few classes that I still haven’t watched. Many are on quilting but I also purchased Photoshop, Photography, Alcohol Ink Art and other classes. I have bought programs I haven’t really learned to use yet…..this year I plan to watch them and learn.
- Continue doing a monthly guest post and project for AccuQuilt and share information on using their cutting machine and dies. I use them all the time.
- Continue being an ambassador for Island Batik.
- Share quilt projects from Fat Quarter Shop.
- Create at least one new tutorial a month.
- Submit more quilt patterns to magazines.
- Write more quilt patterns.
- Spend more time with family.
- Lose some weight and exercise more.
- Send out my newsletter! I have been so bad at this. (I have only sent out 2……)
- Work on SEO and updating my blog.
- Finish at least 12 UFOs this year.
- Have fun and enjoy life!
In April I moved my blog from blogger to WordPress.org and it has been a constant learning experience. I lost quite a few people in the move; I haven’t done a good job keeping track of things through Google Analytics and that is something I want to do better this year. It seems like many people are going away from blogs…..spending more time on Instagram and in Facebook groups. I see many blogs that haven’t had a new post in months and months. Pinterest continues to be one of the biggest ways that people find my site. My blog is my journal, I enjoy sharing tutorials, patterns and little blurbs about our lives. Time seems to fly by as I get older.
This will probably be the year that I buy a new computer, the only reason I don’t like that is the hassle of reinstalling programs….ugh. If I open Photoshop, Electric Quilt and get online…..everything starts to stall. I can’t decide if I want another laptop or a desktop computer. Any suggestions?
Scheduling posts ahead of time……this was a goal I had last year and…..it just doesn’t seem to work for me. I read about people working on a all of their posts for a week. It is probably the procrastinator in me that keeps me from doing it. I have my calendar and list of things to do but it always seems like I am writing my post at the last moment. I always used to do my post at night so it was published around 6:00 am. Hopefully I’ll do better this year. A post takes a minimum of one hour to do and sometimes longer.
I moved into my new studio last January and I have showed bits and pieces of it in posts but have never done the complete post.
This little sweetie came into our lives in September.
Sadie has changed our lives, she is no longer the scared, timid, flea/worm infested dog that Builder Bob found. She now rules the house…..she wants breakfast at 8:30 am, she wants to take a daily nap with Builder Bob. She loves him and my dad…..me….she tolerates unless I am feeding her or taking her for a walk. I had calendars made for Builder Bob and his mom, I’ll have to share the photos later and need to do a post just on her rescue story.
I have been a ambassador for Island Batik since 2014 and love getting a box of beautiful fabrics every 6 months that I can use to create quilted projects that I share here. I have designed quilts and patterns that go to Quilt Market, in fact I just put one in the mail for Spring 2017.
It is really, really hard for me to give up ANY of my beautiful Island Batik fabrics but….I am giving away a charm pack and one yard of Tradewinds. I have made a quilt, pillows, a table runners another table runner, from this collection and love it.
