The Snail Trail quilt block is a very old and beautiful quilt block pattern that is being shared in the Fat Quarter Shop Classic and Vintage Series. Keep reading to get your free pattern.

I decided to make the crib quilt which is 37.5″ x 37.5″ and uses just 4 of the Snail Trail blocks. This block looks hard but takes no time at all to make.

Snail Trail Quilt Along

Here is my Snail Trail quilt on my design wall, I used 2 different dark green batiks and 2 neutral color batiks for my blocks and muslin for the background.

I used just 4 fat quarters plus my background fabric for the blocks. This will also look great on our dining room table.

For the backing, I just chose something in my stash that had a tan design.

  3. love the movement in this piece! great work!

  4. I’ve always loved the look of the Snail Trail block and finally made a queen sized quilt a couple of years ago using a variation of the block. I used the Eleanor Burns “pig tail” version that uses a square in the center instead of the 4 patch. Now I want to do the traditional version after seeing your baby quilt.
