I enjoy decorating for Christmas and making new table runners and topper every year.

This is my newest Christmas tree table runner which you can read about and also get the tutorial for my original Christmas Tree Table Runner which I wrote way back in…….2011! It still continues to be one of my most popular posts at Christmas time.

Anyone that knows me….knows I would much rather be in my quilt studio instead of the kitchen!

  1. Beautiful cookies. You do ask the tough question to bake or quilt? Being a lover of both it is hard to pick one over the other. It cans down to mood generally. But quilting is technically better for my waist line though. lol

  2. Connie, frosted sugar cookies are my FAVORITE!!! Yum, yum! Thank you for all of the fun downloads:). Is there really a choice here? Quilt, quilt quilt! You are so nice to be giving the patterns to some lucky winner. (I hope it’s me!) — I so enjoyed cooking in the cookie exchange with you. Merry Christmas!

  3. Of course, I’d rather quilt! But I am the only cook in the family….so jealous of your Builder Bob who not only builds but cooks!!! Lucky girl!!!

  4. Amy Cavanagh says:

I always make sugar cookies at Christmas so it looks like I will try your recipe this year!! I love baking, but quilting is good too!!!

  5. Oh my goodness! Sometimes I prefer cooking, but I really love to quilt. Baking is my favorite in the kitchen though. Eating is another favorite, so sometimes cooking is necessary.

  6. Hi Connie! I have missed you and your blog because we have been out of state. Yummy cookies and thank you for sharing your recipe. Gotta catch up now. Merry Cookie Christmas…xo

  7. Definitely quilt! I have just about forgotten how to cook!

  8. You should ask my husband what my answer would be. His answer – QUILT Luckily he loves to cook.

  9. Ahhh! I love doing both but since moving almost three years ago, I don’t have quite as much room for either as I would like. I also don’t have quite as much energy as I would like/need. lol I’m finally starting to learn to pace myself but it is taking me time to figure out how to do that. Your cookies look good … maybe my sister and I can try them when I visit her at Christmas.

  10. I wish I still had small children. The Christmas tree table runner is adorable with the cookie plate on top.

  11. I would rather quilt than cook, but I do enjoy baking for the holidays. I love your table runner!

  12. I love to do both, but I think quilting wins-especially when there’s always last munute gifts to make!

  13. Valerie Boudier says:

Definitely much rather quilt, really don’t like cooking

  14. That’s a hard question for me to answer because I love to bake and to quilt. i would say it is a toss up. Your cookies look delicious I am going to have to try your recipe.

  15. Very pretty tree runner. I would of course pick quilting any day of the week. Have a very Merry Christmas.

  16. Maryellen McAuliffe says:

I like to cook and bake, and maybe I love to quilt more than both of those, but without cooking and baking, I would have no energy to quilt! Thanks for the fun.

  17. Quilt for sure!! I do love to also bake!

  18. Easy answer – I would much rather sew than cook. But I really love to eat.

  19. Lynne Stucke says:

Is this a question? Seriously??? Is there really a person who would rather cook than quilt????? If so, it certainly isn’t me!!!!

Thank you for your blog. I always enjoy it. And I’m continuing to pray for you and your siblings as we move into the holiday season.

  20. Your cookies look so perfect, I’ll take one right now!! Thank you! Like you, sewing tops cooking any day. I think my family should gather in the sewing studio and sew with me instead of in the kitchen. Hubby is a great cook and I encourage him everyday. I love your tree runner and all your quilts. That train is so precious.

  21. Kim from Calgary says:

My husband does all the cooking, I’d rather be quilting! Merry Christmas.

  22. Hi, Connie. I was just thinking yesterday that all the blog hops put on by Madame Samm. That how I came to follow so many wonderful blogs. I do miss them and miss MS lots.
These cookies look delicious and Christmasy, too. Thanks for sharing your recipe. Merry Christmas

  23. i enjoy both at the moment i am baking layers of cake to make a cake large enough to feed 21 children … but looking sideways at my quilt calling me to come quilt me

  24. Right now I’m going to be different and pick cooking. It’s quicker to see the results and both cooking and quilting require lots of clean up. If you saw my sewing room you’d understand why right now the kitchen and cooking are more fun! I’ve never made sugar cookies – thanks for sharing the recipe! Thanks for the chance!

  25. Quilt while eating cookies!!!

  26. That’s a tough question as I love both – maybe quilting a bit more.

  27. Edith Gorzo says:

Quilt. But it looks like I may be making some cookies in the near future. Thanks for the draw.

  28. Susan the Farm Quilter says:

I would always prefer to quilt!! However, with all of these fabulous cookie recipes I have been collecting, I’ll probably have to do some baking!!

  29. I love your new table runner. I definitely prefer quilting, although I do like to bake-cookies, cakes, etc. My husband does the everyday cooking and I’m happy to leave that to him.

  30. Joanne Bates says:

Easy question !! Yes, definitely quilting. I do have to cook as I lost my cook. Thanks for your giveaway for a chance to win. Love your blog.

  31. Hi, Connie! Oh, those cookies look so beautiful and delicious!! I’d rather quilt, but I love to cook too. So, both!

  32. I have yet to find a sugar cookie recipe I truly love, so I will definitely give this recipe a try. Thanks so much sharing it. Also your tree table runner is cute!

  33. Love the newest table runner Connie. I actually laughed when you answered your own question. You? Cooking? LOL
I’m kinda the opposite than you though, as I would dearly LOVE to be in my kitchen baking as I used to do before 2002 when my body decided that, just 2 weeks before my wedding it was going to tell me out of the blue ~ SURPRISE! ~ your knees is now cr*p! 🙁 As you know, it’s gotten worse, but I still have a brain telling me that I can cook and bake as much as I want to……….until I attempt to start and then practically crawl back to my sewing room in pain. LOL You’d think by now, I’d realize my new limitations wouldn’t ya? Nope. Stubborn I am.

BUT, that’s why I started learning to quilt after I had bought my first sewing machine (an embroidery machine) for the first time in my adult life and did machine embroidery on everything for about 6 yrs. That’s when I turned to quilting. What’s funny is about 2 yrs after I started quilting, it started taking off and everyone, it seemed wanted to learn to quilt. That helped since it gave me answers to some questions I had no answer for.

So? Quilting or cooking? Both, but quilting can be done sitting down and not causing me pain for 3 days after. SO I guess quilting has to be the winner. 🙂

  34. I used to love to bake…that was umpteen years ago. For 9 years I made 3 meals by scratch for my 3 kids. For 22 years I made dinners everyday by scratch. I don’t know how I did it. I was much, much younger then. Since it’s been just my hubby and me, I cook very little. And quilt or sew? A no-brainer! QUILT!

  35. Ha, ha! I would definitely rather quilt! I hate cleaning up my cooking messes, working for hours on something that’s consumed in 10 minutes, and there’s nothing left to show for it. I make dreadful messes quilting, work hours (days) on projects, but there is something left to give or keep to be enjoyed (hopefully) for years to come. And, quilts are calorie free if you don’t count the m&ms it took to finish it.

  36. I love sugar cookies – I need to try these! Man, I am in trouble because I love cooking and quilting!!!

  37. Brenda Ackerman says:

Hello Connie; I would much rather quilt than cook anytime. I love the tree table topper and hope to make one soon! Thank you for the opportunity to win three of your patterns! Have a great day!!

  38. I like both but if I am in the middle of a project forget cooking. That said I will blow through at least 20 lbs of flour baking cookies. Sugar cookies are my favorite to make.

  39. After looking at last night’s burnt offering of a supper, it’s obvious that’ I’d rather be quilting.

  40. MaryBeth Little says:

I’ll take quilting over cooking any day!! Thanks for the cute tutorial.

  41. both … i often have goodies in the oven while I sew … the house smells wonerdrful and I have something to snack on when I take a break … win+win … 🙂 Pat

  42. Of course I would rather QUILT!! As a matter of fact, my kitchen has become my “design center”, and my counter is rarely used for cooking! Connie, I would love to participate in this cookie exchange next year. Please let me know more about it when it rolls around next year.

  43. I would be hard pressed to pick one over the other I love to cook (and eat) but I love to quilt. In fact I try to divide my time between cooking and quilting….and shopping……..and playing with the dogs……….but NOT cleaning house, doing laundry, making groceries. No, I have my priorities.

  44. Cook? Not if I can help it! I’m want to quilt, quilt, quilt until the pizza arrives. On a serious note your patterns are well designed and I have enjoyed making a couple of them more than once. Thanks Connie.

  45. Lisa Marie says:

While I do love to cook (and eat!), I don’t love it as much as quilting.

  46. My father-in-law was shocked last Christmas when I informed him I don’t like to cook. Weird, but true. So, yes, I’d rather be quilting!

  47. Your “sew” right about loving to quilt more than cook. I really need a personal chef here! hahahaha Those cookies look delicious, and like Carol S said, they do look like the ones in the store that I have had to quit buying because I found that I do not share well with others! They are like chips where you can’t just eat one! Love your table topper and all your projects for that matter! Merry Christmas.

  48. Haha rather quilt than cook. But I do love Christmas cookies so I’ll be baking too. Merry Christmas!

  49. Brenda Hulsey says:

Cooking???? What’s that? LOL! I’d much rather be quilting than cooking!

  50. I love holiday cooking but everyday cooking not so much. Of course I love quilting as my many sewing machines and fabric can attest. I am making pumpkin raisin cookies this weekend.

    tushay3 (at) yahoo (dot) com

  51. Cook or quilt??? Cccccccc…..QUILT!!! I’ve had my fair share of cooking days, so now that we’re empty nesters, we eat out more and prepare simple meals. I have always loved soft sugar cookies, but don’t like the mess of cutting them out with shapes. Your recipe is one I can do and enjoy! Thanks, Connie!

  52. I would much rather quilt than cook. But alas, I will soon have to come out of the sewing room and move into the kitchen to get some baking done. Back in the 90’s my husband took over the meal preparation, but he doesn’t bake.

  53. Bonnie Larson says:

HAHA. Thats easy. Quilting of course. Thanks for sharing

  54. Thanks so much for the giveaway! I would rather sew or quilt than cook. I love your table runner and am going to make it today for my coffee table. This is new to me. Whenever I think of a new table runner, I think of my kitchen table, make a runner for the coffee opens all kinds of possibilities.

  55. Kathie Weatherford says:

I would rather quilt thank cook. Luckily my husband has taken that over.

  56. I would rather quilt. Your patterns are great.

  57. OOPS Now I see the flour – well, guess it is going back to bed time for me…. Sorry!

  58. No flour in the sugar cookie recipe? I can barely read your blog the typing is so small and the characters too light on the white background.

  59. I would much rather quilt–no dirty dishes involved!

  60. I love both equally because I Do Love to Eat! I enjoy knowing exactly what is on my plate and Who touched it – picky me..

  61. Constance P. says:

If I cook, it creates dirty dishes. If there is a dirty kitchen, I have to clean it. That takes too much time away from those things I would much rather be doing. Solution: don’t cook.

  62. Your tree table topper looks even more festive with Santa and a plate of those pretty cookies sitting on top. I would rather quilt or sew than cook. I think a lot of us are feeling that way, lol! Hubby loves to cook as his hobby, so that works for me!

  63. Deborah Rhodes says:

I love both. But lately quilting has won out. Thanks

  64. Great cookies recipe, especially the icing. 🙂 I’d actually rather be eating cookies than either quilting or cooking. But quilting comes a very close second, first if I have to make the cookies myself.
Lovely table topper and great train. I am into trains right now and this one is very cute. Thanks for the chance to win.

  65. Lorene Holbrook says:

Oh dear, i love to cook, especially if some else cleans up! But i will take quilting any day, any time!

  66. I enjoy both – but you are much more liable to find me quilting rather than cooking/baking

  67. Rosalind Gutierrez says:

I am married to Mr. Mom so I have more time to quilt. Love your creative patterns.

  68. Oh my gosh! Those cookies look like the ones you see in the stores that my family loves. Wow…they look amazing! I’m so glad I met you through blog hops and I really appreciate you playing along in this cookie hop. Your train pattern is adorable!

  69. I would rather quilt. Cute table topper. But Christmas cookies, you definitely have to jump into the fun as a family tradition.

  70. Carol Kussart says:

Oh, my, I would MUCH rather be quilting than cooking or baking!! Hands down, quilting is my favorite thing to do (other than spend time with family). Thanks for sharing!! The cookies look delicious.

  71. Shirley Totos says:

Love quilting……cooking, baking not so much!!! But I do enjoy homemade cookies as long as someone else bakes them. Thanks for a chance to win such a wonderful prize.

  72. I like to quilt while I bake…thank goodness for timers!! Thanks for sharing, love the tree tabletop quilt!

  73. Love your table runner and the tutorial for it. I’d much rather sew than cook. I do love cooking, but hate the cleanup, so if I could sew, I’d jump at the chance to do it instead!!

  74. Hi Connie,
Oooh your cookies look so good and festive. I love the table runner – thanks for the tutorial. I’m going to PIN your cookie recipe. Happy Holidays to you and your family. ~smile~ Roseanne

  75. Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without sugar cookies. My daughter has already made two batches with the 4 year old. Thanks for all the link ups. It’s a toss up for me …love the baking/cooking and also my quilting so much.

  76. Renea Yarolim says:

Silly girl. I would much rather quilt than cook. Isn’t that why we have husbands. Mine does most of the cooking in our house since all our children are grown and not living with us. Thanks for the generous giveaway.
